The festival
About us
The Debrecen Street Music Days is not a classical festival - it's more of an open, friendly initiative where the city and music breathe together. We believe that culture does not necessarily take place within walls, but where we live: on the streets, squares and pavements. That is why we created this event - to give space to music and to those who are open to it.
How did it start?
The first Street Music Days Summer 2021 was held over two consecutive weekends, from Friday to Sunday. Our aim was to try out what it means to bring live music to the heart of the city - not on stage, not with sound, but right into the middle of the people. Right from the start, you could feel that the concept was working: the musicians were having fun, people stopped, listened and started coming back.
Where are we going?
A few years have passed since then, and the Street Music Days have become a stable summer event in Debrecen. Since then the event has become condensed into a weekendto provide a more focused and intense experience - but in the meantime, the number of applicants has steadily increased. More than 70 formations have already registered in 2025, of which more than 50 we will have an orchestra and a performer.
All this while still trying to keep the event open, people-friendly and "small but honest".
When and where?
A 2025 Street Music Days on 25-26 July (Friday-Saturday) will take place in the centre of Debrecen. The performances will take place in several venues in parallel - each one a small musical island worth stopping by for a moment. No entrance fee, no cordon, no compulsory programme - just you, the city and live music.
Who can you hear?
Every year you'll find familiar names and fresh voices among the performers. They include street music veterans, enthusiastic amateurs, talented youngsters and musicians who might not get the chance in other environments. The genre palette is wide: pop, folk, blues, jazz, indie - variety is not a principle here, it's a natural part of the event.
Why do it?
Because we love Debrecen, we love music, and we believe that good things can happen when people are willing to stand together for a song. We don't want to do a mass event, we don't want to outgrow ourselves - we just want to look at our city a little differently once a year. To experience that sometimes culture is really just someone starting to play and others paying attention.
